About the interning organization: Fairfield Broadcasting’s main stations are AM 1660 WQSN, AM 590 WKZO, AM 1470 WKLZ. The internship is for the sports station AM 1660 WQSN. The Sports Station AM 1660 WQSN is Kalamazoo's only all-sports radio station. Locally owned and operated by Fairfield Broadcasting Company, WQSN is Kalamazoo's home for ESPN Sports Radio, Michigan State Football and Basketball, Kalamazoo Wings Hockey, NFL football, March Madness, and Kalamazoo Kings Baseball!
Semesters interns are needed: Fall annually
Number of interns needed: 1
Start date: On or near the beginning of the semester
End date: On or near the end of spring semester
Hours per week: 10-15 hours per week/depending upon the number of weeks scheduled to intern. Hours per week are also contingent upon number and length of sporting events.
Academic qualifications: Declared major in Broadcast Cable Productions, Journalism, Media Studies, Film/Video/Media Studies, Telecommunications & Information Management, Public Relations.
Desired skills and qualifications: Student interns should have excellent command of the English language and junior or senior standing. Interns must be a sports enthusiast and responsible as well as outgoing, personable, and professional.
*** Interns must be available for local sporting events, which may include nights and weekends.
Description of intern responsibilities: Interns would assist WQSN’s sports director Seth Harp with the following… Cover press conferences, monitor press coverage, sports news coverage, WMU sporting events, get sound bytes, interview players and coaches, go out in the field, and go "on air" for live sports anchoring and reporting as well as producing.

Credit: College credit toward communication major, minor or general electives. One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work.

Evaluation: The evaluation and grade will be completed by Internship Coordinator Marilyn Kritzman and will be based upon the following:
The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities
The student’s copy of all work produced
Final paper
The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation
The internship sponsor final evaluation
Method of Evaluation:
Student’s journal/log: 20%

Paper: 20%

All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday of finals week of the semester/session registered.
Internship sponsor evaluation due half way through the internship
Internship sponsor final evaluation due the Wednesday of finals with the rest of the material. It may be submitted with the student’s materials in a sealed envelope, or the sponsor may submit it separately by the due date.
