Internship objective:
To gain hands on experience filming and replaying adult hockey league games.

About the interning organization: The arena is located in Texas Township, just west of Kalamazoo, and is Southwest Michigan’s newest and finest ice-skating facility. Twin Star sits on the corner of 9th Street and N Avenue, ¼ mile North of I-94, and is right in the middle of the fastest growing area in Kalamazoo.We feature spacious locker rooms, Shanks on Ice Smokehouse Bar and Grill , BJ Sports Pro Shop, Open Skating, Drop-in Hockey, Adult leagues, Youth Leagues, High School Hockey, Figure Skating, WMU Stallions, Kalamazoo College Hornets, and the WMU Mustangs.We also be offer specials for groups for birthday parties, open skating and broomball

Semesters interns are needed: Fall and spring semesters annually

Number of interns needed: One - three

Start date:
On or near the start of the semester, negotiable

End date: On or near the last day of the semester, negotiable

Hours per week: 10-12 hours per week/depending upon the number of weeks scheduled to intern.

Academic qualifications: Declared major in Film, Video and Media Studies, Media Studies, Broadcast Cable Production, Telecommunications Information Management, Communication Studies, or a declared minor in Communication. Other majors will be considered if they have the film production skills.

Desired skills and qualifications: The ability to film games and replay them for post-play meetings.

Description of intern responsibilities: The intern will film adult hockey games 6 nights a week (or a portion of those nights) beginning at 7pm. Approximately 30 minutes after each game, the film will be replayed at Shank’s On-Ice Smokehouse Grille. Alternate formats including live feeds may be considered as the program develops.

Credit: College credit toward communication major, minor or general electives. One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work.

Evaluation: The evaluation and grade will be completed by Internship Coordinator Marilyn Kritzman and will be based upon the following:
v The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities
v The student’s copy of all work produced
v Final paper
v The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation
v The internship sponsor final evaluation

Method of evaluation:

v Student’s journal/log: 20%
v Student’s work: 20 %
v Paper: 20%
v Internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation: 20%
v Internship sponsor final evaluation: 20%

Calendar:
v E-mail updates to faculty sponsor every month.
v Additional communication via email, phone or in person as needed
v All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday prior to final weeks of the semester/session registered.
v Internship sponsor evaluation due half way through the internship
v Internship sponsor final evaluation due the Wednesday prior to finals with the rest of the material. It may be submitted with the student’s materials in a sealed envelope, or the sponsor may submit it separately by the due date.
