Internship objective:
To provide working opportunity for students that involves hands-on public relations/communication objectives. The intern will be exposed to projects that are both internal and external to the organization.


About the interning organization: The Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo was founded on July 21, 1971.


The diocese encompasses 5,337 square miles of nine counties in southwest Michigan: Allegan, Barry, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph and Branch. Catholics in the diocese number more than 120,000.


The Diocese of Kalamazoo has approximately 46 parishes, 13 missions, 44 priests, and 23 deacons. It has 7 religious orders working in non-parish ministries. Analyze information and help create a workable data base of positions
Troubleshoot problems with YOU staff and constituents and help resolve issues as necessary
Assist with the gathering of resources
Help develop timetable and report schedule
Assist with the preparation and delivery of presentations
Attend YOU events and staff meetings as necessary and requested.

Journalism Internship
The Palestra Media Group



The Palestra Media Group is looking for highly-motivated students with journalism experience to work as reporters for a national college media network which has recently affiliated with Fox News Channel.

Student reporters will cover their school’s athletic teams, music scene, traditions and other elements of life around campus. Sports reporters will work with their school’s Sports Information Department to cover practices and games, shoot video of interviews with players and coaches and file short daily reports.

Student reporters may also create feature stories profiling a noteworthy athlete, event or tradition at their school. These stories will be posted on our company’s website (http://www.thepalestra.com/).

Student content will also be reviewed by FNC and occasionally repurposed on Fox News Channel and foxnews.com.

This is a paid position. Student reporters for The Palestra will be paid on a sliding scale ranging from $150 to $235 per month depending on the content they turn. They also earn and additional $20 for each pre- approved feature story they create.

To gain hands on experience filming and replaying adult hockey league games.

About the interning organization: The arena is located in Texas Township, just west of Kalamazoo, and is Southwest Michigan’s newest and finest ice-skating facility. Description of intern responsibilities: The intern will film adult hockey games 6 nights a week (or a portion of those nights) beginning at 7pm. Approximately 30 minutes after each game, the film will be replayed at Shank’s On-Ice Smokehouse Grille. Alternate formats including live feeds may be considered as the program develops.

Internship objective: The 94.7 WCSX Internship Program is designed to give students the opportunity to put together and execute street marketing and to be a major contributor to a major radio station’s Marketing & Promotions department. Interns will be involved in all areas of marketing including direct, mass and database marketing. If you are looking to learn more about radio broadcasting, event marketing and promotions then 94.7 WCSX is the answer.

About the interning organization: 94.7 WCSX is a Greater Media Detroit Company which also owns 101 WRIF and 105.1 WMGC. WCSX has a very successful intern hire rate within the broadcasting field. Our goal is for students to succeed in broadcasting as well as our own station interest.

Topics will range from engineering to customer service.
An Exit interview at the end of their internship with 94.7 WCSX.
We will be looking for feedback on the nature of their experience and welcome suggestions that they may have on improving the program.

Interns will attend staff meetings and production meetings.

Internship objective: To develop hands on experience in Public Relations.

About the interning organization: The Marshall District Library is composed of the city of Marshall and 4 taxing townships and 4 contracting townships. They are looking to market themselves better throughout the community.

Interning organizations mission: The mission of the Marshall District Library is to serve its community by providing diverse informational educational and recreational materials in a supportive and accessible environment.

Intern responsibilities:
Develop a media contact list
Develop internal PR materials, guide to library, and develop a newsletter
Write press releases
Attend local business and community meetings and give library presentations
Create media arts
Make contacts within the community

Semesters interns are needed: summer I and summer II, fall, spring annually

Number of interns needed: One

Start date: On or near the first day of semester, negotiable

End date: On or near the last day of semester, negotiable

Hours per week: M-F 8am-5pm. There is possibility of completing some work in the evenings and on some weekends.

Academic qualifications: Declared major in Organizational Communication, and/ or Public Relations. An Imaging minor or several Imaging courses are preferred.

Required classes: COM 3050: Newsletter Design or demonstrated equivalent experience. COM 3500 completed, COM 4500 completed, or enrolled.

Desired skills and qualifications: Desktop publishing, MAC/PC platform, good public speaking skills and strong interpersonal skills. Be able to projects in a timely manner, be somewhat independent and be able to meet deadlines.

Internship objective: The intern(s) will be responsible for communications between Lightning Kicks and its members, media (print, TV, and radio) and other external and internal audiences.
About our organization:
Lightning Kicks Martial Arts and Fitness offers Taekwondo classes for all children and adults as well as self-defense and training in Combat Hapkido. At Lightning Kicks, we treasure the traditional aspect of Taekwondo and enjoy the art as a sport.
Taekwondo can:
• Develop social and teamwork skills of sharing and turn taking
• Encourage healthy physical activity

Internship objective: Lawrence Productions Video Production internship is designed to provided experience in virtually all aspects of video production including pre-production, client relations, on-location production, studio production and video and audio post-production.

About the interning organization: Lawrence Productions Inc. (a privately owned corporation) is a full-service video and audio production company. Our professional production staff consists of writers, directors, producers, animators, camera operators, audio engineers, computer programmers, multimedia experts, and video editors.

We also own and operate a software company specializing in the design and distribution of educational products. Our facilities in Grand Rapids are equipped to provide two full time on-location camera crews, 30' by 40' studio, animation, multimedia department, one digital audio post-production suite and three digital video editing suites. Internship objective: To receive a hands-on experience within a sports organization. Interns will have the chance to help behind the scenes and learn what it takes to run a successful sports organization. Internships are ideal for students who have interest in the sports industry.

Availability: The K-Wings Hockey Club offers full internships or game day internships in both the fall and the spring. Office hours are required for internship credit.

Hours: Negotiable, depending on the hours needed to receive credit.

Internship Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
-Public Relations:
Assist with the production of media guides and game notes for the K-Wings.
Edit press releases and other media.
Assist in the press box on game nights by running the UHL live scoreboard, contacting the local media, sending out information to the media and the league and assisting with the live radio broadcast.


-Marketing and Promotions:
Assist with booking and coordinating National Anthem performers.
Assist with in-arena promotions and events.
Create flyers to promote up-coming events and promotions.
Organizing and attending player/ mascot appearances.
Assisting with the K-Wings Kidz Club.


-Group Ticket Sales:
Prospect and cultivate group and season ticket sales for the Kalamazoo Wings.
Assist with the development and implementation of theme game nights.
Create flyers and brochures for group sales and game nights.
Interns are expected to complete assignments from all departments.
