Description of intern responsibilities: Educate clients and the business community with resources available to them. Personally contact potential clients and new clients about services available. Provide and upload new, creative information to Face book, Linkin and the web site as well as other links. Develop marketing materials. Assist in planning and working at member and community events. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This is a part time position
Under the supervision of the Marketing & Facilities Rental Manager, this position is responsible for the Marketing initiatives of Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Intern is needed to assist with the promotion of programs and shows at the Museum and Planetarium to regional visitors including tourism industry, communities and businesses. Duties includes researching target audiences; Creating and maintaining databases; Organize and file media clippings, Respond to visitors’ and organizations’ request for information, Coordinate distribution of Museum brochures, Participating in Museum brainstorms and meetings; Assist with direct mailings; Handling requests for promotional materials; Attending staff meetings and assisting with marketing duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED
Ability and willingness to work independently, Formal education in related field (marketing, communication, journalism or related experience), Ability to organize time, Able to follow directions and complete tasks in an effective manner, Skill in coordinating tasks and projects, Good written and verbal skills, Computer skills, including MS Office Suite (especially Word and Excel), Comfort with speaking on the phone, Ability to work well with people.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Working towards a Bachelor degree from a four year college or university, preferably majoring in Marketing or Communications
All internships are unpaid. Credit must be arranged through school by student.

Internship objective: This internship will provide the advanced communication/marketing student hands-on experience in communicating the mission and values of a non-profit emergency food assistance organization through both print and Web-based communications.
The student will work directly with the Fund Development and Public Relations Director and will assist in maintaining current systems, as well as creating new marketing materials to promote the organization’s services.
About the interning organization: For over 27 years, KLF has been the main charitable source of emergency grocery/food assistance for hungry individuals and families in Kalamazoo County. Established as a collaboration of approximately 20 Kalamazoo area churches, each operating an independent food pantry, KLF was founded in 1982 to provide a central access point for hungry individuals and families seeking emergency food supplies, and efficient collection and distribution of grocery resources throughout the Grocery Pantry Program network.
Our service has since grown and offers 26 Grocery Pantry site options for clients throughout the Kalamazoo County area. Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes has experienced a huge surge in the number of requests for emergency food resources in the past 18 months, and in 2008, served more than 68,000 hungry people.
