Internship objective: Hour Media, the publisher of Hour Detroit, DBusiness, Detroit Home, Metro Detroit Bride and Detroit Home Improvement magazines and more, is proud to offer marketing internships during all semesters. Ideal candidates will work a minimum of 20 hours per week during fall, winter, spring or summer term. Schedules are negotiable, but a minimum three-month commitment is required.
Semesters interns are needed: Fall, Spring, Su I & Su II annually.
Number of interns needed: Minimum of 1

Desired skills and qualifications: Qualified students will have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Hour Media offers its interns substantial projects and significant opportunity for skill-development. We are looking for hard-working individuals who enjoy a fast-paced environment and are willing to take on new tasks. Professionalism and responsibility are a must.
Description of intern responsibilities: A marketing intern will assist the marketing director and assistant in day-to-day departmental functions, including press release writing and distributing, developing and distributing promotional materials, assisting with marketing campaigns for all publications, Web marketing, event planning, managing and tracking company donations, archiving, assisting in the ordering of promotional marketing tools and more.

Description of intern responsibilities:
  1. Prepare written materials, including news releases, business letters, flyers, brochures copy, information sheets, invitations, newsletters, and miscellaneous mailings and bulk e-mails.
  2. Make personal and telephone contacts with potential volunteers, families, donors, community supporters, and the news media.
  3. Represent the agency at special events such as United Way agency fairs, campus recruitment events, and other public forums to raise awareness of the agency and its needs among the public.
  4. Manage various client lists, as needed.
  5. Develop internal and external communication plans relating to specific agency projects.
  6. Plan and carry out special events; provide assistance for agency events and fundraising projects.

Internship objective:
To provide working opportunity for students that involves hands-on public relations/communication objectives. The intern will be exposed to projects that are both internal and external to the organization.


About the interning organization: The Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo was founded on July 21, 1971.


The diocese encompasses 5,337 square miles of nine counties in southwest Michigan: Allegan, Barry, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph and Branch. Catholics in the diocese number more than 120,000.


The Diocese of Kalamazoo has approximately 46 parishes, 13 missions, 44 priests, and 23 deacons. It has 7 religious orders working in non-parish ministries. It operates three Catholic high schools and twenty-one elementary schools serving more than 5,000 students. Three Catholic hospitals serve the health care ministry in the diocese.

The office of communications assists the bishop and participates in the mission of evangelization by providing information from and for the Catholic Church in southwest Michigan.

About the interning organization: The Student Conservation Association is the nation’s largest and oldest provider of conservation service opportunities, outdoor education and career training for youth.

Hours per week: Each internship responsibility has its own allotted amount of time which will range from 16 weeks to 1 year.

Interning organizations mission: The Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance is a statewide coalition of individuals and organizations working cooperatively to protect and preserve the natural geography, historical heritage, and rural character of the Saugatuck Dunes coastal region in the Kalamazoo River Watershed, beginning with the former Denison property.


Organization’s goals:
Phase 1 Goals: Protect and preserve the former Denison property and adjacent open spaces.Protect and preserve the natural geography, historical heritage, and rural character of the Saugatuck Dunes coastal region including the Kalamazoo River.Encourage and assist city, township, county, state, and federal governmental bodies to work together to develop a collaborative approach in planning and zoning that follows the ten tenets of wise land use as detailed in the Michigan Land Use Council's 2003 Final Report and the Tri-Community Comprehensive Plan Phase 2 Goals:Establish the Saugatuck Dunes coastal region as a recognized leader in community development and land use practices that conserve energy, land, historical, and natural resources; promote local, sustainable food networks through small family farms; and enhance the places where we live and do business. Conserve open space in Laketown, Saugatuck, Ganges, Manlius, and Casco townships by ensuring the diversity and sustainability of small family farms.
