Hours per weeks: The expected workload is 2 - 10 hours per week, depending on the assignments and needs of each intern and depending upon the number of weeks a student is scheduled to intern and the number of credits a student plans to earn

The schedule is extremely flexible and most work can be done from any location.

Academic qualifications: Declared major or minor in the School of Communication

Desired skills or qualifications: Experience in journalism, interest in sports

Description of intern responsibilities: Expansion of contacts, producing 4-6 articles per week, scheduling and carrying out phone and in-person interviews. Interns will cover football and basketball during fall and spring. During the spring and summer, interns will cover recruiting, camps, combines and pre-season predictions.

Interns will enjoy a very flexible and hands-on experience through a variety of assignments including writing player interviews, coaches’ interviews and team stories, information collection, and the possibility of covering many big games including the MHSAA Football State Finals at Ford Field and the Basketball Finals at the Breslin Center. Covering the State Finals is an excellent opportunity to gain experience at a major sporting venue. MichiganPreps is always looking for creative ideas from interns so the possibilities are unlimited.

Internship objective: A solid hands on approach for extensive broadcast education. College and high school football as well as on-air experience will be included in the internship.

About the interning organization: Inside Hockey has a subscriber base of over 25,000 hockey fans as well as a content distribution relationship with FoxSports.com.

Desired skills and qualifications: Student interns should have a strong interest in sports journalism, understand and enjoy hockey and be a strong writer. Students should also be able to work independently and meet deadlines with little on-site supervision.

Description of intern responsibilities: Student intern will cover the Western Michigan Broncos Hockey Team for Inside Hockey. Responsibilities would involve attending all home games, writing a weekly report on the team (game synopses, top performances, injuries, etc.), and contributing to Inside Hockey’s overall NCAA coverage.

About the interning organization: Fairfield Broadcasting’s main stations are AM 1660 WQSN, AM 590 WKZO, AM 1470 WKLZ. The internship is for the sports station AM 1660 WQSN. The Sports Station AM 1660 WQSN is Kalamazoo's only all-sports radio station. Internship objective: To learn about the television industry firsthand by experiencing and participating in newsroom functions such as reporting, producing, sports, weather and news assignment desk.

First priority will be given to declared Media Majors (Film, Video and Media Studies, Broadcast Cable Production, Media Studies) who have completed Broadcast Journalism (Com 3590), TV Studio Production (Com 3570) and Advanced Production (Com 4570)

All interns must be registered for college credit.

Description of intern responsibilities: Interns will learn the inner workings of a top 40 market newsroom. Reporting candidates will have the experience of shadowing current reporters on staff in the field, learning how to shoot, write and interview. Producing interns will get hands-on experience selecting news content, stacking rundowns and writing. Sports, weather and news assignment desk candidates will also have the opportunity for hands-on experience, working at a CBS/CW affiliate. Other job duties include research, web work and future
planning needed by the news department.
