Desired skills and qualifications:

· Must have an interest in entertainment/cable television industry

Description of intern responsibilities: The Showtime Networks, Inc. Summer Internship Program is designed to provide students with exposure to various departments within the cable/entertainment industry. With this in mind, managers are advised to delegate a diversified selection of assignments with an emphasis on projects, rather than clerical tasks. Additionally, the program serves as a way of providing Showtime Networks, Inc. with an array of highly talented and qualified students eager to apply their skills in assisting with special projects. This is intended to be a developmental experience, and as such, managers provide constructive guidance throughout the program. Once on board, the interns are educated about the various departments within Showtime Networks, Inc. through presentations given by division heads.
At the conclusion of the program, managers are asked to submit a written assessment of the intern. The intern is also asked to submit a written evaluation of the program. This information is retained and used to evaluate the interns for future employment.

The Black Entertainment Television Internship Program allows students to receive first-hand knowledge of the rewards and challenges of working for a multi-faceted entertainment company. Internship Objective: To provide television or broadcast related majors an opportunity to experience and participate in all aspects of community television.

Internship Availability: Fall, Spring, Summer I & II annually

Number of Internships Available: Up to 6 per semester

Start Date: The first week of the academic semester of the internship.

End Date: The Friday prior to finals of the academic semester of the internship.

Hours Per Week: 10-15 hours/week depending on the number of weeks scheduled for the intern. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

Academic Qualifications:
First priority will be given to FVM, Journalism and TIM majors. All other School of Communication majors and minors willbe considered if openings exist.


Note: Pre-communication students may request special permission to take this internship before they are accepted into their major.

Required Qualifications:
Must be working toward a television or broadcasting related degree
Must have means of transportation
Must have a valid driver’s license
Must be at least 18 years of age

Description of Intern Responsibilities: Interns will be given the opportunity to experience and participate in all aspects of community television. Throughout the course of the internship, interns will receive hands-on experience in digital and analog video production including digital camcorders and linear and various non-linear editing platforms. Interns will also take part in the production of live and taped studio shows and remote production shoots as well as regular live programs such as City Council Meetings and Kalamazoo School Board Meetings. Other duties for interns include basic maintenance of equipment, recycling program tapes, office facilitating, creating original programming for the Community Access Center, and various other duties. Upon successful completion of the program, eligible interns will receive a stipend. Hours are scheduled on a case-by-case basis with a minimum of 6 hours per week plus a mandatory 1 Friday and 1 Saturday per month.

Internship objective: To learn about the television industry firsthand by experiencing and participating in newsroom functions such as reporting, producing, sports, weather and news assignment desk.

Academic qualifications: Declared major or minor in the School of Communication. Students must have completed coursework in Broadcast or T.V production. First priority will be given to declared Media Majors (Film, Video and Media Studies, Broadcast Cable Production, Media Studies) who have completed Broadcast Journalism (Com 3590), TV Studio Production (Com 3570) and Advanced Production (Com 4570)

All interns must be registered for college credit.

Description of intern responsibilities: Interns will learn the inner workings of a top 40 market newsroom. Reporting candidates will have the experience of shadowing current reporters on staff in the field, learning how to shoot, write and interview. Producing interns will get hands-on experience selecting news content, stacking rundowns and writing. Sports, weather and news assignment desk candidates will also have the opportunity for hands-on experience, working at a CBS/CW affiliate. Other job duties include research, web work and future
planning needed by the news department.
