About the interning organization: Yearly, ESPN airs more than 5,100 live and/or original hours of sports programming for more than 65 sports including MLB, NBA, NFL, WNBA, college football, men's and women's college basketball, including every game of the women's basketball tournament, tennis, PGA and LPGA Tour golf, Little League World Series, the X Games and the Great Outdoor Games

Semesters interns are needed: Fall, spring, Su I & Su II annually

Number of interns needed: Minimum of 1

Desired skills and qualifications: Student interns should be:

1. Currently enrolled college student (within 12 months of graduation)
   Interested and have a passion for sports
   Authorized to work in the United States for any company

Evaluation: The evaluation and grade will be completed by Internship Coordinator Marilyn Kritzman and will be based upon the following:

1. The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities
2. The student’s copy of all work produced
3. The student’s learning objectives and progress made toward the learning objectives
4. Final paper
5. The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation
6. The internship sponsor final evaluation
   

Method of Evaluation:

1. Student’s journal/log: 20%
2. Student’s work: 20 %
3. Paper: 20%
4. Internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation: 20%

Calendar:

Internship objective: A solid hands on approach for extensive broadcast education. College and high school football as well as on-air experience will be included in the internship.

Semesters interns are needed: fall, spring, su I and su II annually

Number of interns needed: 2

Start date: On or near the first day of the semester, negotiable

End date: On or near the last day of the semester, negotiable

Hours per week: 10-15 hours per week/depending upon the number of weeks scheduled to intern.

All interns must be registered for academic credit.

Academic qualifications: Declared major or minor in the School of Communication

Desired skills and qualifications: Student interns should have an interest in radio production and on-air broadcasting, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Student interns must be able to meet deadlines, have good writing and public speaking skills.

Completion of Com 2570 and/or prior radio broadcasting experience a plus; but not necessary.

T.V. Production Internship

Internship objective: To learn about the television industry firsthand by experiencing and participating in newsroom functions such as reporting, producing, sports, weather and news assignment desk.

Semesters interns are needed: Fall, Spring, Su I and Su II annually

Number of interns needed: up to 8 per semester

Start date: On or near the start of the semester, negotiable

End date: On or near the last week of the semester, negotiable

Hours per week: Up to 20 hours

Academic qualifications: Declared major or minor in the School of Communication. Students must have completed coursework in Broadcast or T.V production. First priority will be given to declared Media Majors (Film, Video and Media Studies, Broadcast Cable Production, Media Studies) who have completed Broadcast Journalism (Com 3590), TV Studio Production (Com 3570) and Advanced Production (Com 4570)

All interns must be registered for college credit.

Description of intern responsibilities: Interns will learn the inner workings of a top 40 market newsroom. Reporting candidates will have the experience of shadowing current reporters on staff in the field, learning how to shoot, write and interview. Producing interns will get hands-on experience selecting news content, stacking rundowns and writing. Sports, weather and news assignment desk candidates will also have the opportunity for hands-on experience, working at a CBS/CW affiliate. Other job duties include research, web work and future
planning needed by the news department.
