Internship objective:  To provide agency support in various areas of nonprofit management.

About the interning organization: CASA for Kids, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose sole function is to recruit, screen, train and monitor volunteers from the community who represent the best interest of children in the foster care system as Court Appointed Special Advocates.   CASA volunteers are appointed by the judge as sworn officers of the court to advocate for a child or sibling group in the abuse neglect system to ensure that they are receiving appropriate services and working towards the ultimate goal of a safe, caring and permanent home.  CASA volunteer are the eyes and ears of the Court and a voice for the child. 

Interning organizations mission: The mission of CASA is to provide volunteer advocates to work independently for the best interest of each child of service coming within the jurisdiction of the Barry and Eaton County Courts.  CASA's purpose is to provide strong personal advocacy for abused/neglected children within the two counties as well as furnishing thorough in-depth, objective information to the court and system professionals.



Semesters interns are needed:  Fall, Spring, Su I and Su II annually

Number of interns needed: minimum of one

Start date:  negotiable

End date:  negotiable

Hours per week: 10-15 hours per week/depending upon the number of weeks scheduled to intern.  

Academic qualifications: Declared major or minor in the School of Communication

Desired skills and qualifications: Student interns should :
 Student in areas of internship responsibilities.
·         Proficient in Microsoft applications including Word and Excel and comfortable with learning new systems.
·          Responsible, self motivated, strong initiative and ability to work independently.
·          Exudes a professional demeanor.
·         Familiarity with the nonprofit sector.
·        Articulate communication and interpersonal skills.
·       Social media experience desired.

Description of intern responsibilities:
The internship may include some or all of the following responsibilities/work experiences as determined jointly by the organization and the student intern.
I.               Fundraising/Event Support
A.    Participate in Fundraising Event Committees.
B.    Assist in developing sponsor relationships and obtaining sponsorships for fundraising events.
C.    Assist in planning of fundraising events.
D.    Participate in fundraising events.
II.             Marketing
A.   Assist with Volunteer Recruitment Efforts.
B.   Marketing with Service Groups.
1.   Identify community service groups.
2.   Schedule/assist in conducting presentations to engage the community with         CASA.              
C.  Newspaper
Assist in writing and submitting press releases and news articles.
D.   Newsletter
      Assist in putting together the electronic quarterly newsletter. 
III.           Social Media (if intern has social media experience to benefit the agency)
A.   Assist with website development.
B.   Assist with Facebook.
IV.           Donor Development/Management
A.   Assist with donor development.
B.   Assist with donor database management.
C.   Assist with donor acknowledgement.
V.             Grant Writing
A.   Assist in identifying grant opportunities.
B.    Assist in grant writing.   
VI.           Outcomes
A.  Assist with data compilation and outcomes reporting to grantors/funders.

Credit:  College credit toward communication major, minor or general electives.  One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work up to 6 credit hours.

Internship objective: We are currently seeking blogging interns who are interested in sharing their college experience through writing articles for our site. Interns should be willing to write about topics such as: planning for college, preparing for standardized exams, selecting a college, applying for college, paying for college, and freshman year of college.


About the interning organization: TheCollegeHelper.com is an informational resource that equips students with everything they need to make the transition from high school to college, and supports them through the beginning of their college career.
Students at all stages of high school can get step by step information and tasks to follow as they research, prepare, and succeed in college!


Interning organizations mission: To show prospective and other college freshmen the good times and the bad times you as students went through during that first year.

End date:  On or near the last day of the semester, negotiable

Desired skills and qualifications: English, communications, and journalism majors preferred, but not required
·       Passion for blogging and writing
·       Good writer, team player, and technologically savvy
·       Knowledge of WordPress, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Skype is a plus
·       Minimum 3-month commitment (but longer if you’d like!)

·       Description of intern responsibilities: Work closely with a professional blogger to write 2-3 blog posts per week. (Each blog post must be at least 300 words).
·       Conduct research for blog posts, including reading other blogs, conducting interviews, asking questions on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn, etc

Students shall declare the number of credits they plan to earn during their internship when they apply.    Once the semester or internship begins, the credit hours cannot be altered without financial penalty for the student.   Please speak with the faculty advisor about this if you have questions.

v The student’s learning objectives and progress made toward the learning objectives
v The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities 
v The student’s copy of all work produced
v Verification of hours worked
v Final paper/portfolio

Calendar:
v E-mail updates to faculty sponsor every month.
v Additional communication via email, phone or in person as needed
v All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday prior to final weeks of the semester/session registered.
v Internship sponsor evaluation due half way through the internship
v Internship sponsor final evaluation due the Wednesday of finals week with the rest of the material.  The evaluation may be submitted with the student’s materials in a sealed envelope, or the sponsor may submit it separately by the due date.

*Internship objective:

Assist with the planning and successful execution of all aspects of Family Weekend 2012, scheduled for Oct. 26-28, 2012. Primary events will include:

  • pre-football game event
  • designated seating at the football game
  • Sunday brunch
  • Potential additional events include a Friday night reception, student contest, and resource showcase
  • Additionally, there will be a pre-game event on Oct. 6 before the Homecoming game

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized and exceptionally detail-oriented, with a sincere interest in event planning. This internship will require building cordial relationships across campus and within the Kalamazoo community to achieve desired objectives. The intern must possess outstanding communication skills – verbal and written – and be able to effectively work independently. The intern must keep accurate records of event planning details to follow up as needed.

*Description of intern responsibilities:Assist in designing marketing materials and ways to promote the weekend to students and families during the late summer and fall semester
  • Assist in creating a schedule of weekend events, both on campus and in the local community
  • Effectively network with various constituents to offer free and discounted activities to our families Coordinate and organize the various details for each planned event.
  • Track each event’s RSVP’s and attendance figures.
  • Be on-site and available throughout the weekend to assist as needed.
  • Launch a post-event survey to determine satisfaction with the weekend.
  • Provide supervisor with a written evaluation of the planning process and weekend with lessons learned and suggestions for improvement.
