Internship objective: Event planner working with the Coordinator and Director of the University Center for the Humanities

Organization: Western Michigan University Center for the Humanities is a gathering place to exchange diverse cultural and intellectual ideas.  The Center supports activities and events that nurture an engaged public life and consider the meaning of human experience.

Mission: The mission of the Center is to recognize and support the humanities at Western Michigan University.  The Center acts an incubator for the exchange of ideas among faculty, emeriti, alumni, undergraduate and graduate students, and people in the wider community.  Through the understanding of diverse cultural, professional, political, and intellectual landscapes, we nurture engaged and vital academic life.

Semesters: Fall, Spring, Summer I and II annually

Number:  one

Start date:  On or near the first day of the semester, negotiable

End date:  On or near the last day of the semester, negotiable

Hours per week:  10-15 hours per week

Academic qualifications: Declared major or minor in the School of Communications

Desired skills and qualifications:   
·                    interest in the humanities and desire to work with people

·                   strong initiative and ability to solve problems

·            detail oriented and highly organized

·             excellent writing and communication skills


Intern responsibilities:  
·      work with the Director and Coordinator to achieve UCH goals

·      help schedule and facilitate Center events

·      help develop marketing materials, including print media

·      maintain mailing lists (email and print) and library materials

·      keep hours in the Center


Location:  2500 Knauss Hall, Western Michigan University

Credit:  College credit toward communication major or minor.  One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work up to 6 credits
