Fall Semester, 12-16 weeks in length 
Approximate Hours per Week: 15-30 (Flexible with class schedule) 

Job Description: Seeking an intern to support the Corporate Communications department and graphics team at a large regional health system. The purpose of this position is to enrich the participant's knowledge and experience in healthcare communications by providing a forum for learning and implementing many of the essential skills and tools required in this field. Experience will include job shadowing and timely implementation of a broad range of design work, partnering with specialists to implement design projects, basic layout design, clerical activities and other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: Prefer junior, senior or recent graduate, able to commit a minimum of 15 hours per week to internship. Ideal candidates must be detail-oriented, with strong communication, organizational and computer skills. Prefer students seeking degrees in graphic design, advertising, communications, marketing, public relations, or similar. Candidate must have an updated portfolio to be considered for this position (samples can be submitted via a web link, email or mail).
Skills Required: 
 Adobe Creative Suite Version 5 or newer 
 Proficient using Mac OSX 
 Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) 
 College level writing and editing skills 
 Photography skills a bonus

Credit:  College credit toward communication major, minor or general electives.  One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work up to 6 credit hours.

Internship objective: To give interns hands-on experience in marketing communications in promotion of products in the medical device industry.

About the interning organization: Founded in 2005, Surgical Specialties Medical Devices, LLC is a professional Independent Sales Agency representing Quality Orthopedic and Podiatric products from leading Device Manufacturers.

Evaluation: The evaluation and grade will be completed by Internship Coordinator Marilyn Kritzman and will be based upon the following:

  1. The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities
  2. The student’s copy of all work produced
  3. The student’s learning objectives and progress made toward the learning objectives
  4. Final paper
  5. The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation
  6. The internship sponsor final evaluation
Method of Evaluation:

  1. Student’s journal/log: 20%
  2. Student’s work: 20 %
  3. Paper: 20%
  4. Internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation: 20%
  5. Internship sponsor final evaluation: 20%
Calendar:

  1. E-mail updates to faculty sponsor every month.
  2. Additional communication via email, phone or in person as needed
  3. All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday prior to final weeks of the semester/session registered.
  4. Internship sponsor evaluation due half way through the internship
  5. Internship sponsor final evaluation due the Wednesday of finals week with the rest of the material. The evaluation may be submitted with the student’s materials in a sealed envelope, or the sponsor may submit it separately by the due date.
