Internship objective:

  1. To provide a positive learning environment for college students or recent graduates where they have the opportunity to gain real life work experiences in their chosen field.
  2. To allow interns to accomplish meaningful work projects related directly to the club’s business and strategic goals.
  3. To develop qualified, trained and talented individuals prepared to enter the workforce with a strong, professional foundation.
  4. To develop opportunities for the club to create a pool of talented and diverse individuals for future club hiring.

Authentics/Purchasing, Baseball Media Relations, Baseball Video Operations, Broadcasting Community Affairs, Community Affairs (Youth/Sports Programs), Corporate Sales, Detroit Tigers Foundation, Information Technology Marketing, Park Operations, Promotions, Scoreboard, Suite Sales and Services, Ticket Sales

LAKELAND, FLORIDA INTERNSHIPS

Box Office, Community Relations / Special Events, Media Relations, Sales, Lakeland Administration

Compensation: Interns receive a monthly stipend while they are interning on a full-time basis (average 40 hours per week). In certain situations, unpaid internships will be granted to meet college credit requirements

Semesters interns are needed: Fall, spring, Su I & Su II annually

Number of interns needed: Minimum of 1

Start date: On or near the first day of the semester, negotiable

End date: On or near the last day of the semester, negotiable

Hours per week: Full-time, Days, Nights and Weekends

Academic qualifications: Declared major or minor in the School of Communication

Location: Detroit, MI or Lakeland, FL

Credit: College credit toward communication major, minor or general electives. One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work.

Evaluation: The evaluation and grade will be completed by Internship Coordinator Marilyn Kritzman and will be based upon the following:

  1. The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities
  2. The student’s copy of all work produced
  3. The student’s learning objectives and progress made toward the learning objectives
  4. Final paper
  5. The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation
  6. The internship sponsor final evaluation
Method of Evaluation:
  1. Student’s journal/log: 20%
  2. Student’s work: 20 %
  3. Paper: 20%
  4. Internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation: 20%
  5. Internship sponsor final evaluation: 20%
Calendar:

  1. E-mail updates to faculty sponsor every month.
  2. Additional communication via email, phone or in person as needed
  3. All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday prior to final weeks of the semester/session registered.
  4. Internship sponsor evaluation due half way through the internship
  5. Internship sponsor final evaluation due the Wednesday of finals week with the rest of the material. The evaluation may be submitted with the student’s materials in a sealed envelope, or the sponsor may submit it separately by the due date.
