Internship objective: We are currently looking for an HR Intern to help with general HR and office duties.

About the interning organization: IBS Cotalent is an IT consulting and staffing Firm. Since 1981, IBS has been providing business technology consulting to mid- and large-size companies in insurance, healthcare and other technology-driven industries. IBS is a privately held. It has eight offices nationwide, development centers in Michigan and in India, and European operations in the United Kingdom.

Semester’s interns are needed: Spring, Summers I and II, fall

Number of interns needed: 1

Start date: Near the first day of each semester, negotiable

End date: Near the last day of each semester, negotiable

Hours per week: 15-20

Desired skills and qualifications: The qualified candidate should be/have:
v Very well organized
v Currently perusing a degree in Human Resources Management Business Administration, Organizational Communication, or any other related program
v Possess excellent customer service skills, phone skills, MS Office skills, and be willing to learn

Description of intern responsibilities:
v Coordinate all job order activities:
o Put job orders into computer system.
o Send job orders to recruiters as specified by manager.
o Submit candidates to clients.
o Keep track of all candidates submitted to orders, and their feedback from clients.
v Create Job Descriptions and post job advertisings online (Monster, Dice, Michigan Talent Bank).
v Help out with sourcing of candidates.
v Help with new hire paperwork:
o Create offer letters.
o Put together new hire packets.
o Make sure all new hire paperwork is filled out correctly.
o Resolve and new hire paperwork issues.
v Answer employee’s general questions about benefits:
o May require contacting our benefits department and getting back with the employee once the question has been answered.
v Help answer/resolve general payroll questions/issues.
v Conduct background checks and reference checks as needed.
v Other general office duties that arise.

Credit: College credit toward communication major, minor or general electives. One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work.

Evaluation: The evaluation and grade will be completed by Internship Coordinator Marilyn Kritzman and will be based upon the following:
v The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities
v The student’s copy of all work produced
v The student’s learning objectives and progress made toward the learning objectives
v Final paper
v The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation
v The internship sponsor final evaluation

Method of Evaluation:
v Student’s journal/log: 20%
v Student’s work: 20 %
v Paper: 20%
v Internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation: 20%
v Internship sponsor final evaluation: 20%

Calendar:
v E-mail updates to faculty sponsor every two weeks.
v Additional communication via email, phone or in person as needed
v All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday prior to final weeks of the semester/session registered.
v Internship sponsor evaluation due half way through the internship
v Internship sponsor final evaluation due the Wednesday of finals week with the rest of the material. The evaluation may be submitted with the student’s materials in a sealed envelope, or the sponsor may submit it separately by the due date.
