Internship objective: To obtain experience in the Event planning and Public Relations by taking part in planning and supervising the Family Weekend 2010 event.

Our services and programs are designed to help parents support student’s growth, personal development and overall success, beginning as a prospective student and continuing throughout the years to graduation. Whether they live across town or halfway around the globe, we will engage them in the University experience while fostering their student’s independence.
Semesters interns are needed: Summer I and II and fall semesters annually. Interested students should plan to participate in this internship during all three semesters.
Number of interns needed: 1
Start date: The event will be held in October annually, but there will be monthly meetings from summer I until the event.
End date: The event and the internship ends mid-November annually.
Hours per week: up to 15 hours per week
Desired skills and qualifications:
A student of junior or senior status
Strong interpersonal skills
A passion for event planning preferred
Description of intern responsibilities:
The schedule of events and registration materials will be worked on throughout the summer and a hard-copy mailing will go out to families of all undergraduate students shortly after fall semester begins.
Intern will assist in the planning of activities. Some activities that will be included:
-"Classes without quizzes" for parents and family members
-College open houses
-Information and interest expo
-Pre-football game meal with entertainment, family photos and raffle drawings
-Saturday football game with special reserved section for families
-Theatre and additional athletic events (dependent on schedules)
-Family friendly activities - Haunted House in the residence halls, ice skating, swimming, student rec center
-Coordination with community activities - Civic, KIA, downtown happenings, etc.

Credit: College Credit toward communication major, minor, or general electives. One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work up to 6 credit hours.

Evaluation: The evaluation and grade will be completed by Internship Coordinator Marilyn Kritzman and will be based upon the following:
The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities
The student’s copy of all work produced
The student’s learning objectives and progress made toward the learning objectives
Final paper
The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation
The internship sponsor final evaluation
Method of Evaluation:
Student’s journal/log: 20%
Student’s work: 20 %
Paper: 20%
Internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation: 20%

Calendar:
E-mail updates to faculty sponsor every month.
Additional communication via email, phone or in person as needed
All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday prior to final weeks of the semester/session registered.
Internship sponsor evaluation due half way through the internship
Internship sponsor final evaluation due the Wednesday of finals week with the rest of the material. The evaluation may be submitted with the student’s materials in a sealed envelope, or the sponsor may submit it separately by the due date.
