About the interning organization: WXRT-FM is looking for enthusiastic summer interns who are eager to learn the dynamics of a large market radio station. WXRT has been nationally recognized as one of Chicago's most legendary rock stations. Throughout the internship experience, interns will be representing the radio station at many of Chicago's largest and most exciting events, including street festivals and concerts.

Intern responsibilities: WXRT summer interns will be closely involved in all integral areas of a radio station, which include Marketing and Promotions, Sales, Production, and Programming. Representing WXRT in a public relations capacity is an extremely important role as an intern, and will contribute to the station's overall image and success.

Internship objective: To gain hands-on journalism experience while covering the Western Michigan University Broncos Hockey Team

About the interning organization: Inside Hockey has a subscriber base of over 25,000 hockey fans as well as a content distribution relationship with FoxSports.com.

Semesters interns are needed: Fall 2008 and possibly spring 2009

Number of interns needed: One

Start date: On or near the first day of the semester, negotiable based on the start date of the hockey season

End date: On or near the last day of the semester, negotiable based on the end date of the hockey season.

Hours per week: 10-20 hours per week, depending upon the number of games scheduled during the week.

Academic qualifications: Declared Journalism major or minor.

Desired skills and qualifications: Student interns should have a strong interest in sports journalism, understand and enjoy hockey and be a strong writer. Students should also be able to work independently and meet deadlines with little on-site supervision.

Description of intern responsibilities: Student intern will cover the Western Michigan Broncos Hockey Team for Inside Hockey. Responsibilities would involve attending all home games, writing a weekly report on the team (game synopses, top performances, injuries, etc.), and contributing to Inside Hockey’s overall NCAA coverage.

Credit:
College credit toward communication major, minor or general electives. One hour of college credit is earned for 40 hours of work up to a maximum of 6 credits. Student interns must be registered for academic credit.

Evaluation: The evaluation and grade will be completed by the faculty adviser and will be based upon the following:
1. The student’s journal/log/observation of all intern activities
2. The student’s copy of all work produced
3. The student’s learning objectives and progress made toward the learning objectives
4. Final paper
5. The internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation
6. The internship sponsor final evaluation

Method of evaluation:
1. Student’s journal/log: 20%
2. Student’s work: 20 %
3. Paper: 20%
4. Internship sponsor mid-internship evaluation: 20%
5. Internship sponsor final evaluation: 20%

Calendar:
1. E-mail updates to faculty sponsor every month.
2. Additional communication via email, phone or in person as needed
3. All materials are to be submitted to Marilyn Kritzman on the Wednesday prior to final weeks of the semester/session registered.
4. Internship sponsor evaluation due half way through the internship
5. Internship sponsor final evaluation due the Wednesday of finals week with the rest of the material. The evaluation may be submitted with the student’s materials in a sealed envelope, or the sponsor may submit it separately by the due date.
